Narrative
Elias develops feelings for his new neighbor, Alexander. He soon discovers that he is in love for the first time… Belgium was one of the first countries to abolish terrible homophobic laws and introduce greater inclusion into its society in the 20th century. Same-sex marriage was legalized there more than 20 years ago. So why would Elias, a 13-year-old Belgian boy, suffer when he discovers that he is in love for the first time with a boy, Alexandre, his new neighbor in Brussels? We can say that he doesn’t have to suffer, but we really sympathize with him. Little by little we understand his fears and anxieties as we watch Anthony Chateman’s subtle yet optimistic portrayal, full of love, honesty and clarity.
