Land grabs threaten to destroy the fading dynasty
Narrative
When Lawson’s huge cattle station has no heirs, rival factions in Australia see a chance to take control. The series was filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia in places so remote they are barely inhabited, let alone shown on screen.
The acting is great, the relationships are intriguing, quite complex
Locations include the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kakadu National Park – with special permission from the traditional owners – and Tipperary Station, a living, working cattle station so large it has its own airport and school. While I think it was beautifully filmed, the story is overly melodramatic.
It makes me think it’s made for an international audience
Viewers outside of Australia may scratch their heads about our gun control laws while watching this film. I lived in the Northern Territory for 8 years, there are definitely not many human to human shootings, just OTT.
It’s a very watchable series
The destruction of the country and the constant manipulation are certainly true to life. The death and grief could be explored more deeply, although the legacy of psychological trauma does a good job of continuing.
