Leonard Fife, one of sixty thousand draft dodgers and deserters who fled to Canada to avoid service in Vietnam, shares all his secrets to dispel the myth of his mythologized life. This is the second time Paul Schrader has adapted one of Banks’ novels for the big screen, following the adaptation of Sorrow (1997).

It is distinguished by beautiful cinematography and excellent design
The film is beautifully made, has a strong visual component. The acting is good, especially Richard Gere, who plays the main role.
Maybe not everyone will like it, but I think it’s one of Paul Schrader’s greatest achievements and a gift to movie lovers
He demonstrates a magnificent and memorable performance in the spirit of Jack Nicholson from “FIVE EASY PLAYS”: a complex character, not always pleasant, but fascinating. Recommended.
